Altstätten – Gais line
This picturesque rack railway section connects the small town of Altstätten in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley with Gais in Appenzell Ausserrhoden. The Alpine foothills around Gais are an ideal area for serious hiking and Nordic walking.
Rorschach – Heiden line
Every first Sunday in the month from May to October the «Rosa» steam locomotive with its open panoramic carriages puffs up and down. Heiden is the starting point for the Joke Trail and the Special Round Trip including two aerial cable cars and boat.
Rheineck – Walzenhausen line
Dating back more than 100 years, the rack railway ferries passengers from Rheineck to Walzenhausen. This is also a stage in the Special Round Trip with two aerial cable cars and boat trip as well as a start/end point for the Joke Trail.
St. Gallen – Trogen line
Enjoy a varied excursion with outstanding views of St. Gallen, Lake Constance and the Alpstein mountain range. The little stations along this line are ideal starting points for hikes in the region of St. Gallen.
Gossau – Appenzell – Wasserauen line
