Appenzellerland for culture vultures – 6 hours

1. IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF EMBROIDERERS AND WEAVERS (2 HRS)

Your excursion starts in Rehetobel, where embroiderers, weavers and factory workers once lived and worked. On the individual audio tour (green line on the overview map), you can find out why most of the houses here were built for homeworkers and small enterprises, and hear the memories of contemporary witnesses from those times.

2. HEIDEN HISTORY MUSEUM (2 HRS 30 MINS)

After a short PostBus ride (red line on the overview map), you reach the Biedermeier village of Heiden, with picturesque views over Lake Constance. Right next to the bus stop on Kirchplatz lies the History Museum (red dot on the overview map).

Besides covering the history of the spa village and domestic culture, the museum also has natural history and ethnology sections and a mineral collection.

3. TOUR THE VILLAGE AND ITS ARCHITECTURE (1 HR 30 MINS)

After visiting the museum, stroll through the village and observe the Neo-Classical buildings constructed after the village fire.

Enjoy a coffee or something more substantial at the restaurant (orange dots on the overview map) and take a look at the Biedermeier Hall at the Linde Heiden – one of the most beautiful historic halls in the Appenzell Vorderland.
