Appenzellerland for keen adventurers – 24 hours

1. CIRCULAR TRAIL TO HUNDWILER HÖHE

Start your excursion at the Zürchersmühle railway station in Urnäsch and hike up through meadows and forests to the Hundwiler Höhe peak (light green line on the overview map).

From the top of this pyramid-shaped elevation, you can enjoy wonderful views from the Alpstein massif to Lake Constance. After a short breather, return to your starting point.

2. Up into the airy heights (10 min)

Float up to the summit of the Säntis from Schwägalp on the cable car. During the 10-minute ride, the Schwägalp is at your feet at a lofty height.

3. Discover a world of experience

Not only the ascent to the Säntis is spectacular, but also the weather.

In the fascinating new worlds of experience on the summit, these impressive natural phenomena become tangible with their elementary effects on the weather mountain. The interactive panorama tour leads through the weather elements of the Säntis with guessing games and experiments that can be carried out by the visitor.

4. Floating into the valley

From the summit, the Säntis cable car descends into the valley to Schwägalp. During the 10-minute ride, you can enjoy the view in the distance.

5. BATHE BENEATH A STARRY SKY (10 HRS)

When evening comes, relax in a warm hot tub and recover from the day.

6. Marvel and idulge (1H30)

Take a leisurely stroll along Appenzell’s main street to the Flauderei (yellow dot on the overview map).

This is the place for all things Goba, Flauder and more. The Flauderei is an exhibition space, treasure trove, visitor experience and shop all in one. Try, taste and buy herbal tea blends, jams, liqueurs, bitters, Flauder products and chocolate treats.

7. Discover the art of brewing (2h)

Now it’s time to set off for the Brauerei Locher visitor’s centre (red dot on the overview map). On a captivating tour of the brewery, you’ll learn all sorts of fascinating facts about the art of brewing here and learn how Appenzell beer and Säntis malt whisky are made with fresh spring water.

Beer-tasting sessions for individual visitors take place every Monday (April–October) at 1 pm. Pre-booking is not required.
