Appenzellerland for keen adventurers – 48 hours

1. Snowshoe hiking from Kronberg to Schwägalp (3h)

Start at the Kronberg mountain station and hike across snow-covered pastures, an idyllic forest and through the moorland (beware of melt water). Follow the existing network of hiking trails (though not groomed) to the SAC hut Chammhalde and then on to the valley station of the Säntis cable car.
Attention: The tour for through the "southern Appenzeller Hinterland" wildlife rest zone. Corresponding rules must be observed at all times. An information board at the start provides you with information

2. Up to lofty heights (10 min)

Float up to the summit of the Säntis from Schwägalp on the cable car. During the 10-minute ride, the Schwägalp is at your feet at a lofty height.

3. Top visitor experiences (3h)

The summit of the Säntis offers spectacular views, of course, but also remarkable insights into the weather.

The fascinating new visitor experience at the top (yellow dot on the overview map) makes such awe-inspiring natural phenomena and their elemental forces on the mountain palpable. The interactive panorama tour, featuring guessing games and experiments, guides visitors through the dramatic weather experienced on Mount Säntis.

4. Float into the valley (10 min)

The Säntisbahn cable car takes visitors back down to the valley in comfort. During the 10-minute ride, you’ll soar over the mighty Schwägalp (black line on the overview map).

5. Laternliweg with fondue fun

The romantic Laternliweg on the Schwägalp invites you from 17 November 2022 to 18 March 2023, between Christmas and New Year's Day even every evening, after dark, to take a walk through the snow-covered pasture forest of the Schwägalp/Säntis Nature Adventure Park.

Afterwards, combine a fine fondue or raclette in the Säntis - the Hotel or in the Gasthaus Passhöhe. Reservations required!

6. HIt the Hay (9h)

After a nightcap, you fall into bed tired, happy and content.

You can even make your night’s rest a truly memorable experience by sleeping on straw! Spend the night in the hayloft at Lillybeizli (purple dot on the overview map).

Next morning, set yourself up for another eventful day with a hearty breakfast of fresh regional produce.

7. Climbing to lofty heights

Visit the brand new climbing hall in the Appenzeller Park in Herisau.

In addition to the climbing walls, you'll find offers like Clip'n Climb, a huge indoor playground and much more.

8. A hike with a difference (1-3h)

In the afternoon, visit the farm park in Urnäsch (brown dot on the overview map) and hike with llamas and alpacas over hill and dale. Before you set off, you’ll learn about llamas, alpacas and trekking over an aperitif or coffee and cake.

You can also book a fondue or barbecue in the forest for after your trek.
