Appenzeller Mittelland-Route

Discover the Appenzell Mittelland on a wonderful circular route

The discovery tour through the Appenzeller Mittelland begins in Teufen. After a short descent, you’ll need to pedal hard just before Bühler. The long and intense climb to the Hohe Buche is tough but the reward is the beautiful scenery. A view over the Appenzell hills, the Alpstein peaks and Lake Constance awaits you at the top. From the Hohe Buche, the trail descends to Trogen. Here, the cantonal assembly square with its baroque Grubenmann church, the Zellweger palaces and the Pestalozzi Children’s Village should all feature on your travel itinerary. The route then carries on to Speicher and the foot of ‘Eggen’ mountain before heading back towards Teufen. But before you arrive back at your starting point, take a detour to Waldegg. Enjoy the beautiful panoramic view once again and indulge in a feast of culinary delights, you've earned it! After the stopover at Waldegg, enjoy the leisurely ride back to Teufen.
